LAHAINA, Hawaii — C.J Fair scored 14 of his 24 points in the second half and No. 8 Syracuse beat No. 18 Baylor 74-67 on Wednesday night for the Maui Invitational title.

The Orange (7-0) delivered three wins in three days, taking control against Baylor midway through the first half and limiting the Bears’ hopes of a comeback. Syracuse improved to 9-0 all-time at Maui — it also won the tournament in 1990 and 1998.

“And guess what — I’m never coming back,” said Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim jokingly after the game in a television interview.

Fair won the tournament’s MVP, taking home a wooden trophy shaped like a basketball. After the game, he posed for photos with several fans with the hardware before walking off the floor.

Syracuse stopped would-be runs by Baylor several times. The loss snapped Baylor’s 11-game winning streak — longest in the nation — dating back to last season’s NIT championship run.
